Amazon announced that Alexa is now available in Japan. This could be big as the market has been primed (pardon the pun) for AI and robot assistants for some time. I’d be very curious to understand the cultural subtleties and differences between a Japanese AVS product and those in the US, UK, India, and Germany.

  • What will be its personality?
  • How formal will its responses be?
  • Will it have access to the same breadth of services as the US version?
  • Will Japan adopt a foreign device?

Maybe there really isn’t much difference.

Curious thought? Could these millions of Echos that are now distributed globally host micro instances of AWS? Maybe there’s an option for reselling processing power back to Amazon through them?
