Being Ignored By Alexa
Is Alexa negging me?
False rejection hurts much more than someone asking if I asked for something. Maybe it’s just my perception but I get the feeling the trigger performance on the Echo Show 5 isn’t as good as on other Echo devices. It could be where the mics are located, other noise, or it just could be my perception, but it sticks with me for some time when I’ve called out to her and she ignores.
Then the conspiracy theorist in me awakes. What if Amazon is doing this on purpose? What if some study they ran shows that people get over the negative experience but end up recalling Alexa better if they’re ignored a few times. Maybe their bonus is based on some marketing KPI around recognizing Alexa?
The issue with a black box is that we’ll fill it with whatever demons we can conjure up.
