Beauty in the Eye of the Lens Holder
Sometimes, I look at the photos of family that I took on my Android phone and they don’t seem real. Something in the built processing of the camera has “beautified” the subjects in a way that makes them seem off. They blush a bit too much and their cheeks are perfectly gradient.
The result is great looking photos and my family looking cuter than even I can recall but not quite real. These photos will become my memory down the line and I’m wondering how this distortion will affect both me and others in the future.
What if we’ll become AI-biased than reality? What if looking through AR goggles makes everything seem better and more beautiful than in reality? Reality might end up becoming muted and boring compared to what awaits us in the virtual.
Should brain implants influence our optic nerves, these enhancements might end up being permanent and we’ll just see everything as better. Will this raise the bar like a hedonic treadmill or will we be happier?
