All My Claps Are 50
Medium allows one to clap for an article (similar to a like) but up to 50 times. Maybe it’s my inner megalomaniac, but if I’m an extremist. I either don’t clap, or I give 50 claps.
Mediums approach to “liking” an item is interesting. We look to “likes” to see if we should spend our time consuming some information. If others haven’t approved, should we invest our precious time vetting the information, article, show, or clip?
Likes are one-for-one, like voting, but claps, to a limit, show how much the group is actually enjoying something. Hardy applause isn’t one-for-one. It’s affecting by how hard one claps and how many times.
Perhaps there’s an automated way to show interest? Views are one way, total reads, time spent reading, shares, etc. What do people like me really get engaged with and not just click on?
On the selfish side, we have a short time to make an impact so if we can and are given the ability, why not clap 50 times?
