The rumour mill is grinding again. This time, it’s that Alexa Calling is coming to AVS implementations. The lag between native Alexa and third party Alexa devices is closing and I can imagine that screen based devices employing AVS might also have video calling, similar to Nucleus.
The question one can ask is will the gap between device capabilities every go to 0? When it does, does Amazon having its own voice hardware still make sense?
The question for third party Alexa hardware makers is: how can we keep up with the changes that might required to meet future requirements of AVS on hardware? This means:
- An ability to update the device remotely
- Infrastructure to support remote updates
- Adding onboard resources for future proofing of the device.
