AI-Generated Prompts

Using Midjourney, one can see amazing graphics that are being churned out by some users. The amazing ones vs the OK ones are usually the result of a creative use of prompts. They include terms like “cinematic” or “octane rendering”. Serious prompt writers will sit on the Discord channel all day and pump out prompts, testing what works versus what doesn’t. They’ll refine more and more as though they’re trying to unlock something or get at the secrets of the AI.

Doing a repetitive task and introducing slight variations to see what works well? Hmm… that sounds like a job for AI.

In the very near term, we’re likely to see AI-generated prompts. These might come in two forms:

  1. A service that re-writes a user’s prompts to make them better suited for the given AI.
  2. A guided service that will question back the user to get results that are closer to what the user intended. E.g. What should the cat on the rainbow look like? What style of drawing should we use? What should the cat be doing? Etc.

The first approach might work well with the “surprise me” type of user search. The second would work best when the user is trying to get out a particular image that it’s their head.
