Jet lagged and on the other side of the world, I woke up in the middle of the night and tried find a little bit of light to make my way around. Instead, I mashed my hand against a panel of buttons and ended up creating a blast of stadium lighting into my eyes. So much for melatonin…

It’s in these circumstances that voice would have been perfect. “Alexa, turn on the bathroom lights”. Heck, just getting Alexa’s blue light to shine would have helped provide some reference for navigation.

For basic commands, a full Alexa implementation wouldn’t be necessary. A basic local wake word would have been great, coupled with a few local commands.

Hotels, even high end ones, lag behind in technology so it’s probably going to be another two years until we see some good implementations of voice. Then, the chance to make unique experiences will be available to hoteliers.
