4:30 AM
Nope. Nope. Nope.

Looking out this morning at the pink and orange sky at sunrise, I was wowed at how peaceful and beautiful it looked. However, I would have been more at peace catching up on sleep. However, my jet lagged kids were awake and this meant I was too.
My “4:30 AM challenge” was one of the first monthly experiments that demonstrated to me it was not something that I could adopt for my life at that time. I’ve adopted others including daily writing, gratitude, and eating once a day.
I’ve been running month long experiments for a few years and in July 2016, motivated by a Jocko Willink guest appearance, I thought it was a good time to try. The sun rises around then, so why not… it’ll be easier.
It lasted four days.
That also includes the time I woke up at 4:30 AM, worked for an hour, and then went to bed again from 5:30–7 AM. If you’re in bed by 9 PM, you’re good for 4:30 AM. If you sleep later in the day, great.
I’d be willing to try it again (for example, if I can sleep through the night). My takeaway… life advice needs to be tested to see if it will actually work.
